holiday-sweater

holiday-sweater

I'm currently cold and in the mood for Christmas-y, Holiday sweaters. The types that were in those cheesy Christmas photos back in the day, or something that an Alpine ski bunny would sport. I love mixing it up with something a bit dressier, like a skirt or layered over a blouse, chambray or demin shirt.

I think H&M wins in this category, for best selection and value. So many stores don't really have any of these styles. Here is a selection from H&M, all $29.95-$34.95:

super-model skin

super-model skin

I often wonder how a model's skin survives a fashion week. Show after show, make up on, make up off, over and over again. It seems pretty brutal! I did a little research, and while there are tons of different products they use, these were some of the most common or popular for both models and makeup artists.

Here are some more of their personal tricks and favourite products:

  • Daria Werbowy washes her face with lemon juice and Kate Moss washes her face with warm milk.
  • Cindy Crawford gets facials and microdermabrasion bi-monthly.
  • Not all models use expensive products! Karlie Kloss swears by Ponds Cold Cream, Cara Delevigne uses Nivea Creme nightly and Jessica Stam loves Neutrogena Liquid Facial Cleansing Formula.
  • Anja Rubik uses Clinique 7-Day Scrub Cream to exfoliate daily.
  • Liu Wen drinks a lot of water, and orange juice for vitamin C.
  • Lily Aldridge uses her Clarisonic with Cetaphil to remove her makeup.
  • Miranda Kerr takes Tahitian Noni Juice, and uses coconut and rosehip oils to help give her skin a natural glow.
  • Many models, including Cara Delevigne and Lily Donaldson, mentioned that they love "Simple" brand face wipes (which are very affordable and now available in Canada).
  • Pat McGrath relies on SK-II Brightening Derm Revival Masks on models before applying makeup at shows.
  • Charlotte Tibury uses Guerlain Aqua Day Comfort Cream to prep skin.
  • Tom Pecheux mixes Rodin Olio Lusso with Estée Lauder DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant Creme and Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator to make model's skin glow for shows.
  • Oh, and if a model gets a bad pimple before an important show, she might opt to get a cortisone cream, or even injection, from a doctor :s.

ox-blood

ox-blood

Ox-blood, wine, burgundy... whatever you want to call it??? I love the richness that makes this a perfect Fall/Winter colour. I recently purchased a pair of BDG skinny jeans in burgundy (which are usually sold at Urban Outfitters, but I found at Value Village) that I have been wearing sooo much! They look great with black or cognac blouses I have, or with rock T's and denim shirts. It does help that they are super-soft and comfy, highly recommend (These are quite similar and on sale at urban oufitters for only $29, click here for link)

It's so gorgeous in makeup right now too! Burgundy lips and nails have been on trend lately (especially at this year's Met Ball), my faves being on Camilla Belle, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and Lana Del Rey. With softly contoured eyes and cheeks and perfected brows, this look is vampy in such a soft, feminine way...

Here's some products to try for this look:

Carine Roitfeld for MAC
Nail Lacquer in "Under-Fire Red"
Rimmel London Moisture Renewal
Lipstick in "Burgundy Lustre"
Make Up Forever Aqua Lip
liner in Burgundy 9C
Chanel Nail Varnish
in "Diabolic"
Revlon Lipstick in
"Black Cherry"
