I remember back in the late 80's/early 90's I loved this style. I used to wear knee socks with platform Mary Janes and cute dresses. I might try a slightly "grown-up" version this look now with opaque tights and non-platform Mary Janes (just found a cute pair at the thrift store the other day). You can even try ankle boots, for example combat boots, for more of a casual "grunge" feel.
